AI & Tech

Modern dental technology does more than speed up appointments. It gives Dr. Shore and the staff a clearer, earlier look at problems that used to hide until they became painful, and it helps make every visit more precise from diagnosis through treatment.

Our Central Park South practice has built its newest technology offerings around tools that improve accuracy without adding extra steps to your visit. Dr. Shore has also worked directly with AI development for dental digital x-rays, contributing input on how radiograph analysis tools highlight problem areas for both dentists and patients. For the last 3 years that we have incorporated AI we’ve seen it develop and we continuously monitor and correct any inaccuracies.

iTero Scanner

The iTero scanner replaces the old putty-filled trays with a small wand that captures a digital, three-dimensional model of your teeth in a few minutes. There is no xray radiation. The scan appears on screen right away, so you can see the same model your treatment plan is based on instead of waiting on a physical mold to be sent out and processed.

This same scan supports several other services, from Invisalign planning to veneer and crown design, which means one quick appointment step can feed directly into multiple parts of your care. Patients tend to find it more comfortable than traditional impressions, particularly if a gag reflex has made past dental visits difficult.

Diagnodent Laser Cavity Detection

The KaVo Diagnodent is a laser device that measures fluorescence inside a tooth to flag decay that has not yet become visible on an x-ray or to the naked eye. Instead of waiting for a cavity to grow large enough to see or feel, this tool gives an early numeric reading of a tooth’s condition during a routine exam.

Catching decay at this stage often means a smaller, more conservative filling instead of a larger restoration down the road. It is a fast, painless part of a standard cleaning or checkup, not a separate appointment.

Automatic Tooth Shade Matching

Matching a crown, veneer, or filling to the exact color of your natural teeth used to rely on holding up a printed shade guide under office lighting and comparing by eye. Our practice uses digital shade-matching technology instead, capturing an accurate color reading directly from your tooth and accounting for how light reflects off enamel at different angles.

That level of precision matters most on front teeth, where even a slightly mismatched shade is easy to notice in photos or everyday conversation. It also helps our amazing lab partners create restorations that blend in and look natural.

DNA and Genome Testing

Genetic and salivary testing is one of the newer tools available for understanding a patient’s risk for conditions such as gum disease, and our practice offers it as an additional layer of information alongside a standard oral exam. A simple saliva sample can point to certain inherited risk factors, giving Dr. Shore more context when deciding how closely to monitor a specific patient over time and know the exact strain of the problem.

Clinical exams and standard measurements remain the most reliable way to assess caries and periodontal disease risk. We treat genetic testing as one supporting data point rather than a stand-alone diagnosis, so your care plan is always grounded in a hands-on exam first.

Infrared Imaging

The CariVu infrared scanner uses light instead of radiation to look through the enamel and dentin of a tooth, revealing cracks, decay between teeth, and other issues that traditional x-rays can miss at certain angles. Because it does not use radiation, it can be used as often as needed during an exam without any added exposure.

This technology works well alongside Diagnodent and digital x-rays rather than replacing them, giving Dr. Shore multiple ways to confirm a diagnosis before recommending treatment. For patients, it also means fewer surprises since problems are often caught before they cause any pain.

3D Printing

3D printing lets our practice go from a digital scan to a finished model and guide. Depending on what a treatment plan calls for, this can include night guards, or restorations, built directly from your iTero scan.

Producing these pieces on-site also gives Dr. Shore more control over fit and timing, since adjustments can happen the same day rather than requiring a second shipment back and forth. For patients, that often means fewer appointments and a shorter wait between the planning stage and the finished piece.
